QUESTIONS ASKED AND ANSWERED

Song of Health has been given permission by our Subscribers whose names appear, to share the following with you, so that we may all benefit.  Some have chosen to stay completely anonymous, in which cases you’ll see the name as “Member” or initial.  Other correspondence has been received from outside our membership; however, we feel it is pertinent information to share with you.

From Lenore, Oct. 27th:  Hello there, I love the boat soap.  It's great for a degreaser as well.  I also clean my kitchen counters with it or take the turmeric stain off my cutting boards.  What a gem of a soap.

I'd like some frankincense and myrrh essential oils. Where do you suggest I purchase them? Is Mtn.  Rose a reliable source?

Thank you again for your continued loving support. Warmly, Lenore

Reply from Sandra:  Hello Lenore, thank you for the feedback on the soap. Yea!  Appreciate you sharing.

Mountain Rose Herbs is a great company, trustworthy, organic.  Has a good reputation.  Not the cheapest but great quality.  Personally, I am backing off of frankincense once I use my supply up (I use it in the GMB soap), as it is not a sustainably harvested product, so I've since found out.  Also, from the limited reading I've done on myrrh, the same thing applies.  The resins of both are tapped from the trees, which are slow growing and takes many years to grow.  The health benefits are wonderful, but I welcome the question of whether it is worth the ecological price and consequences.  Just a thought.

I would like to also share this question/response in the newsletter today, if you're ok with it, as it is an important discussion for us all -- it may be healthy and natural, but is it ecological?

Thanks again, Lenore, for your input.  So appreciated!

OTHER COMMUNICATION

From: Michael Jawer mike.jawer@naturopathic.org, Sept 14th: We have an opportunity to influence the VA to make progress in offering non-addictive, non-opioid treatment for veterans suffering from chronic pain.

Please take a moment to send your federal Representative a message urging him or her to sign a letter that will go to VA Secretary Bob McDonald, expressing support for the inclusion of licensed naturopathic doctors (NDs) among the healthcare professionals employed by the agency.

NDs are trained in safe and effective natural approaches to health that emphasize proactive self-care (such as balanced nutrition, sound sleep, and stress reduction).  This approach helps the body to heal itself, and has the effect of reducing or eliminating the need for drugs or surgery.

America's veterans deserve greater access to non-opioid treatment for chronic pain.  Click on the link below and urge your Representative to sign the letter!

Take Action - House Dear Colleague Letter

From EWG, Oct 14st: Are you eating bread with a chemical that’s been linked to cancer?

A new EWG analysis has found potassium bromate – a possible cancer-causing additive – in more than 86 breads and other baked goods.

The popular additive is used in flour to strengthen the dough, help it rise and give the finished bread an appealing white color.

Research has shown potassium bromate can damage DNA in human liver and intestinal cells. In animal studies, it’s been linked to cancer and tumor development.

Click here to learn more about the potential health problems associated with potassium bromate and see which brands are using it in EWG’s newest analysis.

From EWG, Oct 21st: It’s not surprising that many nail polishes contain potentially toxic chemicals – but according to a new study, at least one of those chemicals could be ending up in your body.

The study, co-authored by EWG and researchers at Duke University, found that triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) – a suspected endocrine disruptor also used to make plastics and as a fire retardant in foam furniture – could be ending up in your body if you’ve painted your nails lately.

The EWG-Duke study tested the urine of 26 women who had recently painted their nails and found evidence of TPHP in every participant.

Besides disrupting hormones, scientific evidence shows that TPHP could contribute to weight gain and obesity. In animal studies, it has caused reproductive and developmental problems.

Click here to learn more about the potential dangers of TPHP and see which brands sell nail polishes that contain it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 30, 2015

EPA Reaches Agreement with Manufacturer to Stop Use of TCE in Spray Fixative Products Used on Arts and Crafts

EPA also taking regulatory action to reduce exposure to this chemical

WASHINGTON –The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reached an agreement with a manufacturer to voluntarily phase-out the use of trichloroethylene (TCE) in an aerosol arts and crafts spray fixative product as part of EPA’s ongoing efforts to reduce the public’s exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.

“We are pleased that a company’s voluntary efforts to eliminate TCE from their aerosol fixative product used for arts and crafts will soon mean that all consumer products of this type are TCE-free,” said Jim Jones, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention. “We are also proposing a rule that will give EPA the opportunity to review and, if necessary, block introduction, including imports, of new TCE spray fixative and other consumer products before re-entry into the marketplace. This will ensure a level playing field for American companies who step up and do the right thing. In addition, we are pursuing regulatory action to reduce the risks from exposure to TCE in other products that are not voluntarily addressed.”

TCE is an example of how EPA’s assessment of existing chemicals can lead to real results that protect health and the environment. After identifying health risks associated with a number of TCE uses in its June 2014 Work Plan Chemical Risk Assessment conducted under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), EPA worked with the manufacturers of TCE on possible voluntary efforts to reduce exposure.

The PLZ Aeroscience Corporation, of Addison, IL, has committed to cease manufacturing its aerosol spray fixative product containing TCE by September 1, 2015. This type of product is used by artists, picture framers, graphic designers and printers to provide a water repellant and protective finish. It is the only TCE-containing spray fixative product on the market still used in arts and crafts.

EPA is issuing a proposed Significant New Use Rule (SNUR) under TSCA which requires anyone intending to initiate manufacture (including import) or processing of TCE for these uses to notify EPA at least 90 days before doing so. The notification will allow EPA to evaluate the intended use and, if necessary, to prohibit or limit the use prior to entering the marketplace. Current uses of TCE are not subject to the proposed rule.

In addition to the phase-out and SNUR, the Agency is taking a number of additional steps to reduce the risks from exposure to TCE. EPA is encouraging the transition to safer chemicals and greener processes/ technologies, promoting the use of best practices, and pursuing regulatory action under TSCA to reduce or limit the manufacture, import and use of TCE in a range of products.

EPA is requesting a 60 day comment period that will begin upon publication in the Federal Register at www.regulations.gov and searching for EPA-HQ-OPPT-2014-0327.

A pre-publication copy of the proposal and more information can be found at: http://www.epa.gov/oppt/existingchemicals/pubs/tce.html

SHARING EXPERIENCES:

Remember that eating our food intolerances can have a dramatic effect on our moods as well as other symptoms we discuss, ad infinitum.

REMINDING YOU OF ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS

Back to school is here along with the push to immunize your children.  Before you do, please read the article in the October 2012 newsletter, "Alternative Options For Vaccines?"  You will find SAFE preventative OPTIONS against diseases.

Reminder to Think Thermography!

By Sandra Strom, CEO of Song of Health

October is a memorable month, as several occasions are celebrated at this time.  Halloween, of course!  And National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  I urge you to click on the following link, to last year’s October newsletter; please read about thermography, the safe and most accurate method for detecting all stages of potential breast concerns. Sharing Experiences, "October The Memorable Month" at http://www.songofhealth.com/subscribers/newsletter1014.html#sharing

This is an image created using thermography.  An expert at reading thermograms ~ somewhat equivalent to a radiologist who reads x-rays ~ recognizes the warm spots normally created in the body; as you’ll note, under the arms, places on the chest and midriff, etc.  Most breast tissue and nipples should be “cool” areas under normal circumstances.  Thermograms can detect areas of unusual warmth before an actual cancer occurs, way before a mammogram detects a trouble spot that has further emanated.  By keeping a close eye on these “unusual warm spots” and administering preventative treatments, cancer can often be avoided.

Ask your Naturopath if they offer thermograms, or if they can refer you to a “thermographer”.  If you need help locating one, you are welcome to contact us and we will see what we can find for you.

If only...the allopathic doctors and clinics were willing to accept the countable benefits of thermograms over mammograms, and were willing to purchase the equipment and abandon their current methods.  That’s a dream on a feather in this day and age, especially since the equipment is expensive.  The only way changes are made is if revenue is lost.  The only way that occurs is when patients make the necessary changes on their own and support the safer and more accurate methods.  Either way, we urge you to protect yourself in the best way possible.  Follow your intuition!

To All My Relations, Sandra

REMINDER: IMPORTANT!  Per the request of Dr. Zeff, we will continue to print this message in every newsletter from now on. It is an important issue that we believe needs to always be addressed:

On occasion, a Subscriber will ask our doctors a food intolerance question and their responses will slightly differ.  This has sometimes caused confusion and has been expressed directly to one of our doctors by several patients.

Per our doctors: “…most likely, we are not evaluating foods for, e.g., potato content.  We are evaluating a food for a person with a known potato intolerance…”  Results for one patient to a food can vary from another patient, even though they are intolerant to the same food category.  So, one doctor may determine a different result than any of the other doctors who competently perform this analysis, because they are evaluating for a patient’s specificity to a specific food sample.  “It is one of the peculiarities of the methodology.”

For this reason, we constantly emphasize throughout the Song of Health website that the information found on the website is a guide only.   If you have any personal issues with a product, in other words, an evaluation shows that a food should be OK for you to eat, yet you have a reaction to it anyway, we suggest you refrain from consuming it until you have it evaluated for you personally.

Always, always, always consult your physician with any medical issues you may be experiencing, any drugs you have questions about, or your medical care.  Our purpose is to help you to determine what foods are included in food intolerance categories.  All other information, including articles, are for educational purposes and is not meant to replace your doctor’s care for you.  We are set up as a support team for doctor, patient and Subscriber.  There are many questions Song of Health can answer for you, and we encourage you to ask us first, in regards to food and food intolerances.  All other medical discussions should be directed to your physician.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact us.  We are here to support you and your efforts to claim and maintain great health by refraining from your food intolerances. In Health, Sandra Strom

*About this month’s picture: In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), we proudly display the pink and green ribbon, which symbolizes Naturopathy’s methods of prevention, and detection of potential dangerous “hot spots” by using thermography, which accurately detects body heat.   The colors and scent of  represent this month’s celebration beautifully!

HOW TO READ THE FOOD RESOURCE LIST AND USE THE KEY:

* As items are submitted and analyzed by our staff doctors, they are then added to the Food Resource List on the Song of Health website. We compile the updated lists to email to you as well.

* The items are listed per category.

* By listing the “Date Evaluated” you can be assured of the most recent updates.

* Under the “Evaluated For” column, “ALL” signifies that the product has been analyzed for all food categories included in the Carroll Food Intolerance Evaluation Method.

In some cases, you will see ingredients listed in the “Results” column that are ot included in “Evaluated For.” This is due to: 1) the ingredient has been listed on the packaging; 2) or it is obviously in the stated category; 3) or our doctors evaluated for more than what was asked for. For example, results for milk will be “dairy (D).”
